In my neighborhood, plenty of people do incredible things, some macrocosmically huge and splashy, some microcosmically close and personal. For example, just
a few minutes ago, a lady who has piloted a single engine airplane around the world three times for charity and published three books just took off in her new glider (with a jet engine assist instead of having to wait for tows!) and stayed up
circling the big sky overhead , then soaring almost from sea to gulf and back.
Another lady is working on her single engine Bonanza working out the endless technical “bugs” that baffle me. A third woman is spooning soup into the mouth of
a 98 year old former professor, singer, master gardener, now blind lady. The human accomplishments of those around me generally dwarf anything I do.
And yet….each of us is incredibly valuable. Expendable, but valuable. Just because I won’t be famous, doesn’t mean I stop doing my best with what I have. The game of comparing oneself to others is human, but mind and spirit-numbing, of course! Just admire, and stay up. I am up. I used to blog, set course work, interact with students, endlessly. Now? One post at a time to build this website.
Not because I want to, but because something inside says to give it a try. So many people I know just give it a try, and focus. Keep at it. One day at a time. Here I am.
Staying up.
